The large majority of people who do not choose a projection solution for their home-entertainment systems are typically kind of intimidated by the idea of such a product, which, in general, seems a lot more difficult to use than a TV, for example, or a DVD player. However, that's not the case with modern, all-in-one devices, one of the most interesting of this type we recently had the chance to look at for ourselves being
Epson's DM3 projector, launched back at IFA 2009.
The DM3 is the latest iteration from the DM series, whose main concept is, in fact, quite simple: what's the purpose of having an additional
DVD player and speakers when you can easily integrate all of them into a single device? Plus, why not make the top side movable, in order to face the required direction?
The projector builds on the successful platform of the previous models from this series, but sports some slightly upgraded features. For example, the display resolution has been pushed up (to 960 x 540 pixels), while the DVD player's capabilities have also been improved, now featuring DivX support (which, as the company's reps admit, is a must-have, especially for the Eastern-European markets, where piracy levels are rampant).
The thing with the DM3 is that it offers a lot of versatility for home users, especially those who live in more or less tiny apartments and need to move this thing around, depending on the available space. Plus, since it works right out of the box (by providing playback and audio functions besides
video projection), it might easily fit quite a few market niches, especially since the price point is not exactly a huge one, given the numerous features this all-in-one can provide. After all, just how many complete and ultra-portable home cinema systems that sell for around 1,200 US dollars are there?
