As some of you will certainly remember, around a month and a half ago, Canon released one of their most advanced IXUS compact digital cameras to date, the “anniversary edition” IXUS 1000 HS model, that was touted as being the slimmest ever in this series, something we can really testify to after getting to handle it live for a few minutes.
Released at the ten year anniversary of the IXUS line, the new 1000 HS model manages to combine the old and the new in a very spectacular manner, starting with the external design and ending with the numerous features the camera has in store.
For example, the all-metal design provides a very impressive build-quality, while a subtle, angular design, with easy-to-reach controls, makes the camera even easier to handle.
However, there's more about the IXUS 1000 HS than meets the eye, since the compact digicam also packs a 10x optical zoom lens, while Full HD video capture allows users to record smooth, 1080p movies.
It’s also the second IXUS to feature the HS System, combining a high-sensitivity, 10.0 Megapixel CMOS sensor with powerful DIGIC 4 processing to provide all-round image quality and high-speed shooting.
The camera also comes equipped with a 7.6 cm (3.0”) PureColor II G LCD screen that incorporates a tempered glass outer layer, providing a high contrast, wide viewing angle ideal for shooting large groups or subjects from awkward angles.
The 16:9 widescreen display also allows users to frame and play back HD video footage in full screen without black borders at the top and bottom of the picture.
Naturally, similar to most compacts out there, the IXUS also delivers plenty of in-camera effects, the fish-eye and miniature functions feeling right at home.
As a conclusion, we're pretty sure that people in search for a compact digital camera will certainly take the IXUS 1000 HS into consideration when making a purchase decision, and if not for the features it provides, then at least for the very cool external design.
