Millions of people around the world love nothing more than to start their day with a steaming cup of coffee. The smell, the taste, the caffeine boost and the shared experience of coffee have become a staple of our modern life and culture. In addition, there is significant authoritative information available that drinking coffee has many benefits for our health and wellbeing.

Coffee is a widely-consumed stimulant beverage prepared from roasted seeds, commonly called coffee beans, of the coffee plant. Coffee was first consumed in the 9th century, when it was discovered in the highlands of Ethiopia. From there, it spread to Egypt and Yemen, and by the 15th century, it had reached Azerbaijan, Persia, Turkey and northern Africa. From the Muslim world, coffee traveled to Italy, then to the rest of Europe, Indonesia and the Americas. Today, coffee is one of the most popular beverages worldwide.

Coffee has played an important role in many societies throughout modern history. In Africa and Yemen, it was used in religious ceremonies. As a result, the Ethiopian Church banned its consumption until the reign of Emperor Menelik II of Ethiopia. It was banned in Ottoman Turkey in the 17th century for political reasons, and was associated with rebellious political activities in Europe.

Evidence pointing to the health benefits of coffee continues to pile up, with studies linking regular consumption to a decreased risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and even health conditions like Parkinson's disease and colon cancer. That is, if consumed with moderation, of course. If you feel like having 5 or more cups of coffee a day, then you might as well have the number of the ambulance on speed dial, as you are very likely to have a stroke or heart attack in time.

Over the years, the preparation of coffee drinks has known quite an evolution, which makes it so that, at the moment, there are numerous types of coffee drinks. And since people's tastes have spread over such a wide range, devices to improve the quality of the drinks have also made their appearance.

There are so many coffee machines available on the market these days that you'll probably have a great deal of trouble deciding what you want. Nevertheless, manufacturers have kind of seen this coming, so they have developed devices that can satisfy more than just one craving for a certain type of coffee drink. Moreover, these coffee machines have another plus in speed. Thus, they'll provide you with whatever coffee variation you want, a lot faster than you could do it yourself.

What's interesting is that there are companies that have resorted to the help of car manufacturers to design better and faster coffee machines. This is the case with the Siemens Porsche TK911N2 Nespresso machine and the Saeco Primea Cappuccino Touch Plus, designed by BMW, among many others.

So, if you want quality, variety and speed, these coffee machines are two of the most appropriate choices. The first one, designed by Siemens and Porsche, can be used for espresso, cappuccino and cafe latte. And you don't have to fear you won’t really know how to make them, or how much coffee or milk to put in, because the Nespresso has it all figured out, as it sports an AutoCappuccino/AutoCafé latte feature, with automatic one-touch function, while all types of coffee are made from Nespresso capsules.

Its motion detector automatically opens and closes the sliding window, while the MilkWhirl frothing nozzle is removable, allowing you to properly clean it. The Nespresso's programmable functions include a choice of 8 languages, water hardness setting, cup warmer plate and de-scaling, cup volume control.

The removable water tank has a 1.2-liter capacity, and the machine includes a drip tray and missing indicator. When the capsule container is full, the Nespresso will tell you that by illuminating its dialog display and by screening a message, so that you know exactly what you have to do.

The ritual of coffee preparation and enjoyment is reflected in the appearance of the Primea Touch Plus coffee machine. The design of this item creates a product perception with refined dynamic high-finish surfaces and contrasting colors. The two-color tone and the animated enclosing surfaces encompassing the round control elements in the middle of the machine are prominent design features meant to draw attention to Saeco's jewel-like brewing system button.

The location and coding of components provides a good handling experience, while the user-friendly interface customizes a broad range of coffee specialties with just one touch. Thanks to the exclusive integrated Cappuccinatore, it is the first model capable of preparing two cappuccinos or two latte macchiatos at the same time. The Saeco Primea Cappuccino line offers to any connoisseur the very best in technology, design, and of course, taste.

This device features the international exclusive Saeco Brewing System. This ingenious system allows you to make an infinite variety of coffee beverages from just one fully automatic machine, and at the mere twist of a knob. Whether it is an intense Italian ristretto (turn the knob to the right) or an American-style long coffee (turn the knob to the left), SBS satisfies all tastes, giving a full flavor and a truly unique creamy layer.

In addition, the coffee dose in the extraction chamber is fully manipulated, thanks to the pressure, which remains constant throughout the extraction cycle. Through this process, all of the aroma is concentrated in the cup, offering you a superb cream finish and a truly rich flavor.

These are true high-tech items, but they are not the only coffee machines out there worth your money. Of course, there are others that can also make your mornings brighter, by offering you a great coffee to start your day. The NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto is one of them.

Recognizing that coffee cravings can change from day to day and from person to person, NESCAFÉ, the world’s largest coffee brand, has teamed up with Krups, the world leader in pressure coffeemakers, to serve up a unique 15-bar pressure coffee system that makes 7 different premium coffee flavors and a rich hot chocolate - customized to individual taste. Made from strictly 100% high quality Arabica beans, those are Caffè Lungo - dark roast, mild and decaf, Cappuccino, Espresso, Iced Cappuccino, and Latte Macchiato.

A velvety hot chocolate drink, the Chococino, is also available. Connoisseurs will savor the challenge of picking a favorite, deciding between a frothy Cappuccino, a full-bodied Espresso or a multi-layered Latte Macchiato.

While all other single-cup coffee systems offer 0 to 2 bars of pressure, NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto sets a new standard by featuring a 15-bar pressure system, equal to or above coffeehouse machine standards. The patented technology optimizes the extraction pressure for each variety, consistently delivering the best quality and texture every time. More pressure means consumers gain more control over brewing a frothy cappuccino, velvety latte, or dependable cup of black coffee exactly to their distinct tastes and preferences.

The ESAM5500 coffee maker from DeLonghi suits even the most chic and snobbish of tastes. This is also one of the reasons why it's subject to limited production. DeLonghi’s cappuccino system is known among coffee lovers, and has already been patented. This system allows for easy frothy milk, while the integrated button helps you select three different cup sizes and aromas. When not in use, the milk carafe (1l) can be cleaned at the touch of a button, and stored in the fridge.

The ESAM5500 features an easy-tronic digital control panel, with a stylish iPod-like design, with sleek illuminated icon display and rotating control dial. It can be used with either fresh coffee beans or ground coffee, and the really great part is that the “My Coffee” button enables you to save your taste preference, to get your favorite coffee at the touch of a button. The coffee maker itself looks expensive and classy.

You don't even have to fear that you'll get burned with the delicious coffee, as the ESAM5500 sports an electronic temperature control so you can set your coffee from piping hot to medium temperature and, if you want to reheat your coffee, it comes with an active cup warmer too.

The Baumatic Pythagora PECM1SS built-in coffee machine deserves to be mentioned as well. This way, the Baumatic Pythagora PECM1SS is a built-in semi-automatic coffee machine with electronic touch controls and LED display. Finished in stainless steel with mark resistant coating, this Pythagora coffee machine can be plumbed in or filled manually, and gives you a choice of 1 or 2 cups.

The coffee machine is suitable for sealed coffee pods or ground coffee, and features coffee strength regulation option, steam spout, filter system, hot water dispenser, safety device, and pull-out drawer with compartment for cups and saucers, and dish for coffee waste. Both coffee and steam pumps have 15-bar pressure.

Also, if you simply adore espresso and you need to drink your own wherever you go, you'll probably be very happy to find out that you can do that now, thanks to the Handpresso Wild portable espresso maker.

Light and durable, the Handpresso can be stored easily in a drawer, backpack or even a purse, if you're in drastic need for caffeine daily.

If you want to experience the best of the best coffee each day, all you have to do is search for the coffee machine that you consider right for you. The rest will be an easy and pleasant job.
