The water gliding machine we like to call the jet ski is now going through major changes, as it is about to get in line with
all the other motorized means of transportation that strive to become “green”. Silveira Group has been working on this PWC (Personal Water Craft) for a few years and they are now close to finalizing the third generation, which they have named the Green Samba. The V 3.0 of this water jet ski is expected to be tested sometime in Q3 of 2010.
The Green Samba
prototype is going to be built entirely from carbon fiber and will actually be a sit-down type of PWC. Some of the most recent developments applied to this navigation machine are its twin direct drive electric propulsion pods and the fact that it has been transformed into a completely silent waterbound means of transportation. It is very likely that the military will be interested in this automotive gadget, since it is this silent. The environmental implications are the obvious lack of CO2 and NO2 emissions into the water and the protection of undersea creatures, which have delicate hearing. This was apparently a huge problem regarding this type of machines until now.
You might ask just how powerful is the electric motor of this Personal Water Craft. And it is a good question, considering the fact that most electric vehicles we've seen so far usually have to make huge sacrifices when it comes to
speed performances. The Green Samba promises 65 mph (104,6 Kmph) in a straight line, which
Gizmag says to be the same speed achieved by the fastest 260 bhp sit-down PWC.
You can read the full story on their website and see why the Green Samba is probably going to be the world's first viable electric PWC. The environment will soon have one more motorized friend and this is a very good thing, if you ask me.
We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there.
