Nowadays, pushing a new product onto a market that's already overcrowded with numerous other devices of the same type is quite a difficult thing to do, so manufacturers are forced to come up with some pretty innovative methods in order to enjoy at least some level of success. And while some bank on lower prices or advanced technological features, others try something a lot easier: the “cute” approach.
In fact, that's exactly the case with the digital photo frame you'll read about as follows, designed by Japanese company Greenhouse, a device that's shaped like a very cute mini TV set, which is sure to draw some attention, at least for its looks, if not for its features.
The size of the device is not particularly impressive, as it sports only a 3.5-inch screen, capable of providing 320 x 240 pixels and a 400:1 contrast ratio. However, despite its minute dimensions, the digital frame can deliver pretty interesting functions, some of which are not found on larger devices.
Hence, the Greenhouse digital frame includes a built-in alarm clock and calendar and also provides the possibility to play back MP3 audio, as well as XviD and M-jpeg video files. The memory slot is SD/SDHC compatible, giving it a potential storage capacity of up to 32GB, and the device is powered either from a mains connector of its own, or its built-in rechargeable battery, which lasts for around two hours.
Given the features mentioned above, one would be tempted to think that the Greenhouse digital photo frame would be pretty affordable. Well, the truth of the matter is quite the contrary. Since this thing is targeted mostly at the Japanese market and only exported to other countries, its price point is a rather high one, namely somewhere around 100 US dollars, which is way higher than what this thing is worth.
