You run a business involved in the development of Web 2.0 applications or a cloud computing system and really want to upgrade your rigs? You are thinking something in the line of those high-performance computing rack servers but don't really know what to buy yet. Well, I know of a solution that recently (very recently) appeared on the market.
It is the latest HP SL6000 using 42-unit HP ExSO rack. A rack full of SL6000 Scalable System Servers. The system servers themselves come in three sizes, which we'll talk about in the following lines. First is the HP ProLiant SL2x170z, a device that has two SL170 system boards with up to two Quad-Core Intel processors and up to 128 GB DDR3 memory each. It has one available PCI Express 2.0 slot and an embedded SATA RAID (0, 1, 10) controller.
Next is the SL160z G6, supporting up to two Intel Quad-Core 5500 sequence processors, up to 144GB DDR3 memory, support for up to two 3.5-inch SATA hard drives and an internal storage capacity of up to 2TB. Last but not least, the ProLiant SL170z, capable of sustaining up to two Quad-Core Intel processors, up to 128GB DDR3 memory. It also has an embedded SATA RAID Controller (0, 1, 10) per server node. These devices can be set up pretty easily thanks to the modular architecture of the SL6000.
Let us see what Christine Reischl, senior vice president and general manager, Industry Standard Servers, HP, had to say about these achievements, “Customers with scale-out business models need solutions that make every dollar, watt and square foot in the data center count. […] The HP ProLiant SL offers pioneering customers like these the most significant design innovation since the blade form factor, allowing them to achieve an economy of scale never before possible.”
So, if you're looking for a new super powerful device to replace your current server-type system, go ahead and give this baby a shot. You probably won't regret it.
