Despite the fact that most business users purchase new portable computing systems after a careful analysis of the complete set of features the respective notebook, netbook or laptop can provide, there are also some for whom the design traits are equally important. And this specific segment will most likely be interested in HP's latest announcement, related to the company's new ProBook notebook series, since these devices have managed to combine advanced technical features with a very attractive external look.
Inspired by minimalism, the design of the new HP ProBook series combines matte and glossy surfaces while stripping out the extraneous, leaving only a stylish and clean look. Furthermore, some select models from this series can be distinguished by a choice of merlot or glossy noir finishes, while all of the new notebooks pack a special keyboard design and a set of professional innovations previously found only on higher-priced models.
The keyboard’s innovative layout provides a visually open and spacious area with keys raised from the surface. Usability is the same as with traditional keyboards and the raised surface means fewer places for dirt and dust to hide, making it easy to clean and more maintenance free.
Now that we've seen what these new HP notebooks have in common, let's take a look at what differentiates them. So, the first two models in the series are the HP ProBook 4410s and HP ProBook 4415s, which come equipped with either Intel (4410s) or AMD (4415s) processors, a 14-inch diagonal 16:9 HD widescreen LED backlight display, integrated optical drive with Blu-ray option and the choice of ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330 or Intel GMA X4500 HD GPU. Wireless connectivity includes standard Wi-Fi certified WLAN and optional integrated Bluetooth wireless technology, while the notebooks also incorporate an HDMI port to connect to HD displays.
Next in line come the Intel-based HP ProBook 4510s and AMD-based HP ProBook 4515s versions, which pack 15.6-inch diagonal 16:9 HD widescreen LED backlight displays. Users can opt for a variety of discrete or UMA graphics controllers, and these models also provide built-in Gobi technology that enables HP Mobile Broadband connectivity.
Finally, the last new model presented by HP is the ProBook 4710s, which sports a 17.3-inch diagonal HD widescreen display, the largest of the lineup. For more graphics-intensive environments, the notebook includes the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330, with up to 512 megabytes of GDDR2 for video memory. Plus, it features the latest Intel Core 2 Duo processors.
Pricing for the new ProBook notebooks from HP starts at around $529, with availability (especially as far as the color options are concerned) varying according to the specific sales region.
