Nowadays, every two sentences, an iPad shows up in every conversation, every two pieces of news, the same thing happens, but I say forget about the iPad, let's talk about the
competition. Well, is there such a thing, you might ask. Apparently, there is and it is a serious one too. Take a look at this presentation
Engadget “got its hands on,” which features the Slate's specs vs. those of the iPad.
It supports Flash, there, I've said it, I couldn't wait anymore and I dropped the major feature that the Slate has over Apple's iPad. If this alone doesn't cut it for you, let me tell you about HP Slate's 1.6 GHz Intel Atom Z530 processor and the integrated Intel UMA graphic interface with 1,080p accelerator that this
tablet has and the iPad doesn't.
Besides this, the price for the 32 GB version will be of $549, according to what the guys at engadget have heard, while the 64 GB version of HP Slate will cost $599. Also, the tablet in the picture is very much capable of receiving content from any USB device, has a HDMI port and also comes with a SIM slot, just in case users want an optional 3G modem on the gimmick.
Both models of HP Slate are capable of running for 5 hours straight and come with 1 GB of RAM memory. The tablet boasted by HP also has a VGA webcam and a 3 MP snapper. It will run the HP Touch-optimized UI applied after a Windows 7 Home Premium base, which might make it a little sloppy compared with the iPad. The RAM memory is not upgradeable either and this might have helped the Slate gain some speed.
To be fair, the iPad does have a larger screen, capable of a larger resolution than that of the Slate's and not to mention the multitouch technology
you probably know and love so much. Other than that, the iPad is better at wireless connecting, with the 802.11 n protocol supported above the 802.11 b/g that the Slate has and a better autonomy. If you take the 16 Gb model into consideration, it is also cheaper than the 32 GB HP Slate.
All we can do is wait for an official announcement, instead of random bits and clips that don't let us, or you, draw any real conclusions.
We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there.
