Looks nice, too bad for the poor design in the lower part

The long wait is over, ladies and gentlemen: the new HTC wonder device, dubbed “HTC Hero,” has been officially announced and it looks absolutely fabulous, if a bit impractical due to a minor design issue that we'll talk about a bit later. But I am pretty sure you're more interested in the specs right now so... keep on reading!

It uses a Qualcomm MSM7200A 528MHz processor, 512MB/288MB ROM/RAM, has a 3.2-inch TFT-LCD screen with a resolution of 320 x 480, and supports 900/2100MHz HSPA, as well as Quad-band GSM. It features GPS, 802.11b/g WiFi, has a G-sensor, compass as well as a 5-megapixel camera with auto-focus. Want more? How about microSD expansion, 3.5mm audio jack, and trackball with Enter button?

Have I mentioned Bluetooth 2.0, support for MP3, AAC (AAC, AAC+, AAC-LC), AMR-NB, WAV, MIDI and WMA, as well as video support for WMV and MPEG-4, H.263, H.264? As for talk time, that's around seven hours for WCDMA and nearly eight hours of normal GSM-type talking.

It is also the first Android phone to support Flash and features the remarkable HTC Sense technology. Peter Chou, Chief Executive Officer, HTC Corporation, stated that “HTC Hero introduces a more natural way for reaching out to the people and accessing your important information, not by following the status quo of today’s phones, but by following how you communicate and live your life. […] HTC Sense is a distinct experience created to make HTC phones more simple for people to use, leaving them saying, it just makes sense.”

It features Teflon coating, multitouch and fingerprint coating as well. Due to arrive in Europe in July with T-Mobile and Orange, it is set for a summertime Asian release. It will be launched in America later in 2009. If it weren't for the bulky lower part of the phone, with the trackball sticking out a little too much, the Hero would definitely be dubbed “The Current Hero of Touchscreen Handhelds.”
