There have been many rumors regarding the PSP2 and probably there will be even a lot more before we see anything concrete regarding the long awaited console. It seems that a group of hackers calling themselves Team Typhoon, tired of the constant rumors regarding the PSP2, decided to do the next best thing and hack the PSP-3000 with the help of member Davee's ChickHEN Homebrew Enabler.
A member of Team Typhoon recently posted a video on YouTube showing ChickHEN at work, mentioning that “this proves that the code survives a reboot and the system software and MAC address can be changed.” The Homebrew Enabler has limited functionality for now, since it won't allow the PSP to play back-ups of PSP and PSX games, nor will it allow users to load plugins onto his/her PSP-3000.
What it does allow is for users to load emulators like the gPSP GameBoy Advance emulator or a number of other programs or homebrew games. Basically, it will permit you to run games such as Jellycar and applications like PSPTube without the side effects that tend to come with the territory. The team is hard at work on the next version of the emulator and from what I've seen, I can pretty much guarantee that there is much more to come from this nice bunch of PSP enthusiasts.
So, folks, if you are tired of waiting for a PSP2 and want something right here, right now, check out this little gadget. A piece of advice, though: be very careful what you do because once you choose the path of the hacker, there's no money back warranty or repair service available anymore.
