With the new
Natal motion recognizing controller being in development, one can only wonder what will happen to the current Xbox 360 controller. Well... you can definitely bet on a lot of limited editions being sold by the time Natal comes to life. Microsoft will want to squeeze every cent it can from its soon to be obsolete controller.
Take the Halo 3: ODST limited edition Xbox 360 controller that you receive after purchasing the 99 USD collector's edition of the Halo 3: ODST console game. Besides looking pretty awesome, with a military green technological look to it, the gadget is just that: a regular controller for the 360 with a nice paint job. But seeing that gamers love to customize their trinkets as much as they can, the collector's edition Halo-themed controller will probably be sold out in a matter of days.
Though it is quite impossible not to have heard about Halo 3 if you are reading this article, let me refresh your memory a bit as to what the Halo franchise is all about. Developed by Bungie and published by Microsoft Game Studios, Halo is a science fiction game for the Xbox console. It consists of a trilogy and a few spin-offs such as Halo Wars or our very own Halo 3:ODST.
The story revolves around the adventures of the Master Chief, a human super-soldier (like the Marine in id Software's Doom games) and his AI (artificial intelligence) companion Cortana. The Master Chief battles an alliance of alien races dubbed “The Covenant.”
The series of games and accessories based on the Halo universe (such as modded controllers, figurines and such) have sold millions of copies and continue to do very well to this day. It is indeed the reference game for the Xbox console and the reason why I believe the HALO 3: ODST Xbox 360 controller will probably be a hit.
