I know that bike theft is a problem world wide and that's why many companies have designed some of the best solutions to counter this problem, and so did independent designers. One of them is the Halo Bike Lock,
which is a concept for the time being, designed by Steve Hunt.
Hunt made the Halo Bike Lock in order to provide an enhanced level of security for bike owners. So, not only does the Halo sport the connector cable housed inside the frame of the lock, but the cable also doubles as a signal trigger. The designer plans to have the Halo Bike Lock built-in with a wireless card, that
will send the owner a message, so that he or she might catch the thief.
That's because the Halo would send the message as soon as somebody is tampering with it, which would enable an owner who's close enough to the scene to actually catch the thief red-handed. Sadly, however, I don't really see a girl getting out of the coffee shop and messing with a guy that's stealing her bike if she's not accompanied by some friends.
Another down-side is something you already know, namely that the Halo
is a concept, and the way I see it – the only potential investors would price it very high and might also add a monthly fee for the messaging, which would make it non-consumer friendly.
