As mentioned in our initial article regarding the
Tandberg event we've recently attended, one of the issues that make the Norwegian company's solutions so attractive is represented by their versatility, as well as the fact that they work very well regardless of the platform one might be using, including here one's own PC or notebook, for example.
However, in order to be able to properly go through a teleconference, one will also require the right pieces of equipment, one possible solution being Tandberg's own webcam, the PrecisionHD USB Camera, which we've been able to take a very quick look at, but also saw in action. And indeed, the device is really an impressive one, offering great auto-focus features, as well a surprisingly good image quality (in good bandwidth and lighting conditions,
720p will be a pretty easily-attainable goal with this thing).
According to the manufacturer, the PrecisionHD USB Camera has been designed specifically in order to complement the company's Movi communication and tele-presence software. However, its overall features recommend it as a very good solution for normal, everyday life, since this thing will most likely work great even when used with Skype, Yahoo! Messenger or other
video IM services.
Tandberg has equipped this camera with a 1⁄3-inch, 2.7 megapixel CMOS sensor, which allows it to attain maximum video resolutions of 1280 x 720 pixels (or, in other words, 720p) and 30 fps. Moreover, the device features
multi-coated all glass optics, a focus distance of 0.1 meters to infinity, as well as 50-degree horizontal field of view and 29-degree vertical field of view.
Additionally, the PrecisionHD
USB Camera offers a couple of automatic adjustment options (auto focus, auto light adjustment, auto anti-flicker system), as well as a very useful mechanical privacy shutter, which makes sure to cut the video permanently (with no possibility of activation via some illegal software). It's also worth mentioning that, however, this thing is not as portable and slim as most other webcams out there, since it measures 58mm x 34mm x 125mm, at an overall weight of around 230 grams.
We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there.
