Harry Winston is among the world's largest and most prestigious jewelry empires. The embodiment of three generations of Winston jewelers, dating more than one hundred years back, it has specialized in cutting rough diamonds, polishing and creating marvelous pieces, most of them being unimaginably expensive.
The company is also famous for its luxury watch collections. Opus 9 belongs to Winston's Opus collection, the first piece being launched back in 2001. “The Opus concept is based on the idea of creating an exceptional timepiece each year in partnership with one of Switzerland's most gifted independent horologists,” Winston reveals on its website. Since Opus 1's release, the design has become more and more sophisticated. Therefore, the Opus 9 couldn't have let the public down.
The watch was unveiled last month, at BaselWorld 2009, in Switzerland. It is a beautiful piece with a stunning minimalist design. The hyper luxury Opus 9 uses an innovative system for telling the time, replacing the traditional watch hands and cyclical dial. The time is displayed by two parallel diamond chains, the one in the left showing the hours and the right one, the minutes. Each of these chains is encrusted with 33 baguette cut diamonds, completing its stylish and sleek look. The exact hours and minutes are indicated by mandarin garnets.
Opus 9's case is made from white gold, which also adds to its elegant appearance. The 66 diamonds present sum 2.148 carats, while the six garnets have a total of 0.222 carats. It is also water resistant up to 30 meters.
Regarding its $180,000 reported price, we presume there aren't many people around who can afford a luxury piece like this. But, even fewer will have the chance of actually buying the Opus 9, since it is available in a limited edition of 100 pieces.
