Fashion photography without medium format is like beautiful flowers without their fragrance. Hasselblad was and still is one of the few companies that offer medium format digital cameras. To distinguish their products, not only have they made excellent digital cameras but also provided them with modular characteristics. If you have had a film Hasselblad camera when you were younger, it's about 80% sure it was one from the classical Hasselblad V System. It would've been a shame to give up all your loved lenses when going digital. That's where the new CFV-39 comes in.
It's a custom built digital-back that will fit your Hasselblad V camera as a glove, matching design and functionality and turning it into a digital medium-format beauty. Sporting a sensor twice the size of a full frame 35mm digital SLR, it supplies 39 megapixel of the best quality. Using the top notch solutions Hasselblad, such as Hasselblad's Instant Approval Architecture ( IAA ), Hasselblad's Natural Color Solution and a new RAW file format called 3F. Phocus software gives the digital lens correction, developed for the H3D series, to the V camera photographers.
The CFV-39 digital back can shoot the full rectangle in 39 megapixels and, for the nostalgics of 6x6, it can also shoot in a crop square mode, reducing it to 29 megapixels, but considering the pixel size this is still an out of the planet quality compared to 35mm digital SLR.
The maximum image output is 5412 x 7212 pixels provided by the 36.7 x 49.0 mm sensor that work only 33.7 x 33.7 in crop mode. The digital back only supports Single Shot, ISO from 50 to 800 in 1EV steps and 64 seconds longest shutter speed.
Storage can be done shooting tethered to a PC or Mac or using the card slot that ensures about 80 images on a 4GB CF. The Sony InfoLithium L will last you for an 8 hour shooting session. Contain your excitement for now, since a MSRP is yet to be found, but I can hope it will not be affordable and it won't be for sure.
