Gadgets and dating do mix, don't they?

You know, nowadays, gadgets have become such an important part of our daily lives that it's actually pretty hard for us to imagine living without them. What if, all of a sudden, all our mobile phones disappeared? Or our portable computers? Now, that's a nightmarish thought, don't you think?

Anyway, that's not the subject we'll talk about today. No, today we'll talk about just how gadgets can influence your dating life. And make no mistake about it, whether you're a true jock with little interest for technology or a hardcore geek who carries their computer around wherever they might go, you will be using certain gadgets during and (sometimes) even after going on a date.

The first step in going on a date is actually getting a date with someone, and that is, quite often, the most difficult stage of this whole process. In general, there are two ways you can do this, either face to face (meeting someone and then asking them out) or remotely.

In the first case, after asking a person out, you generally want to obtain some sort of contact information, whether we're talking about a phone number or an address. The old fashioned way was to use a pencil and a piece of paper, but since our world has become so technologically advanced, now you can use your portable devices for such a purpose.

For example, if you do get the other person's phone number, you can now save it directly into your mobile phone's memory, along with the other contact data (IM nickname, email address, home address, etc.). If you've got the home address, you can also add it as a POI on your PND (if you happen to be carrying one with you), and don't forget to add a reminder regarding the time and place you'll be meeting (plus an extra hour or so, for preparations).

The “remote” variant is generally related to the online environment. Come on, admit it, you must have gone out at least once with someone you met on your favorite social networking website or whose IM contact you received from a common friend. However, in order to get online, you've got to use a computer; so, there you have it. Technology and gadgets will indeed help your dating life.

Now that you're sure you're going on a date, let's see just how other gadgets come into play. And I'm not going to talk here about the items one requires in order to “enhance” their look, such as electric razors, hair removal devices, and so on, because that was the subject of a whole different story.

So, before you go out, you should always check the weather and for this, you can use either the Internet or one of those small weather stations that have become so popular lately. You wouldn't want to wear very thin clothes when going out for a walk in the park with temperatures close to freezing point, would you, now?

If you're not quite sure about the specific location your date will take place, be sure to check it out before leaving. For that, you can rely on Google Maps (or even Google Earth, if you want more details), or the maps stored on your cell phone or PND. You could also do a little research regarding the respective place (if you're going to a restaurant, for example).

One last thing. If you are driving and you intend to go to a pub or bar, it will be a good idea to take along an alcohol detector, one of those things you blow into and which inform you whether you're sober enough to drive. After all, you don't want to get in a serious car crash, do you, now?

So, what do you think? Got other suggestions regarding the impact of gadgets on our dating life? If you do, the comments section is just below, so go ahead. Share with us.
