Ever since
Nintendo's Wii gaming console was released, gamers from all over the world have been dreaming of being able to play backup and imported Wii and GameCube games on it. Of course, various solutions allowing gamers to “fulfill this dream” have appeared thus far, but most of them require either a fairly high amount of technical know-how or coughing up some extra cash on a mod-chip.
Nevertheless, a company called ShopTemp seems to have come up with a solution that makes things a lot easier for Wii users, namely the WODE JukeBox Standard for Nintendo Wii. According to its own description, this is a solderless modification device that upon connecting a
USB hard-drive (available separately) allows users to play backup and imported Wii and GameCube games without the mandatory use of a disc or traditional modchips. The system can then be controlled via the built-in LCD screen and joystick, via the GameCube menu interface, or using the homebrew WODE menu.
Furthermore, the Wode also provides access to a region hack (works on Wii with firmware 4.1 and lower), the update blocker and autoboot being included. It delivers strong file system support, using existing WBFS formatted media or 'drag and drop' ISOs on an existing USB device. In terms of file systems, the device is NTFS, WBFS, EXT3FS and HPFS compatible. Plus, it supports USB Wi-Fi & SAMBA streaming.
Last, but certainly not least, we'll have to mention that the price of the WODE JukeBox Standard for Nintendo Wii is quite low, given the features it provides, since we're only talking about around 95 US dollars, which is a sum the “hardcore” Wii gamers out there will most likely cough up in order to get their hands onto this very cool and useful
product.
