It’s not that often that we get to see things that make you think “hmmm…this thing is actually something that will surely prove useful one day”. This is something I am proud to say Huawei have achieved. The company is pretty big on things like 3G and HSDPA, so they came up with the idea to convert 3G signals to Wi-Fi. This is interesting of you think of it, since, beside the modules built withing smartphones, most 3G solutions come in the form of USB adapters and will only work for the host they are plugged-in to.

The D100 router from Huawei is designed to act as a host for a 3G USB adapter and to provide Wi-Fi Internet in the form of Wi-Fi signals for up to 4 clients. This solution is actually very reliable, since you can get a 3G signal almost anywhere in the city. Certainly beats finding a free Wi-Fi spot (until WiMAX becomes a widespread reality, that is).

The router is designed and released together with mobile carrier 3 and will be the easiest way yet to share a wireless 3G connection with other users. Until now, people had to use complicated software settings in order to allow for a shared 3G connection. Not anymore, since Huawei has made it easy for us all. Well, maybe not for us all, but at least for those of us who use the 3 service.

Let me give you one simple example of how such a router can be useful. Let’s say you have a gathering with a few of your friends in order to work on a project for your school. What do you do if you don’t have a Wi-Fi signal? Just take out this simple little router and start empowering yourself with the Internet. Just be careful not to be more than four surrounding it, otherwise someone might get stuck without a connection.

The only problem is that 3G is kind of slow ad sharing it will make things even worse, but if you gotta, you gotta.

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is .
