The door handle has received sparks of light in some form or another along the years, like the little blue lights near the knob/keyhole that let you fit the key whenever reaching home at 3:00 AM in the morning and there is no light in the entire building. Starting from that idea (just guessing here), Emtek
door accessory manufacturer has built a new type of door handle, one that actually lights up when the door is closed.
With
privacy in mind and the elimination of the awkward situations in which the colleague from IT enters the bathroom in the exact moment you are pulling your pants up, Emtek built these handles so they light up and let everybody who wants to enter, in case the respective room is occupied. No more green on one side, red on the other cardboards hanging from the handle with this solution, which can save you from a lot of embarrassing moments at home, at work, or in any space that has a bathroom, actually.
In the picture I got from Unplggd (not a typo), you can see there are various patterns available, not just the one with the whole handle turning red. You can use bubbles to draw the attention of unwanted guests in your private space. The whole thing is made to run on a single AA battery but they are a little pricey... and a little hard to get, depending on your location.
Which means that getting “in touch” with door technology might be a little tricky. If interested, be sure to check the official website for detailed information about their various retailers. The company is based in California, if that helps. There is also a little problem that you might want to take into consideration though, the handle's metallic aspect, which probably won't
fit all doors, from an aesthetic point of view.
