Marketed as the perfect gift for Dads or recent graduates, since these two events are nearing, the i-Got-Control “app with gimmick” system from i-got-it has just received some major improvements, according to the manufacturers. Though it initially boasted compatibility with more than 40,000 IR devices, the people developing it are now telling the world that version 1.2.1 of the iTunes App, which works with the IRB1 accessory, will allow iPhone users to take control of even more home theater systems, TVs and other devices.

"i-Got-Control easily replaces the multitude of remotes that clutter the home and often get misplaced," said Doug Schwartz, president of i-Got-it. "i-Got-Control empowers users to operate A/V devices, as well as many other pieces of IR equipment, including lighting and HVAC systems, no matter where they are."

The IRB1 gadget that attaches in a plug and pay fashion to the iPhone is still the same and only the software behind it has been improved. Your remote controlled iPhone will now benefit from advanced macros and easier programming. I honestly doubt that whenever you need to teach the iPhone how to control a certain unrecognized device, the process will be less tedious. Besides, the i-Got-Control system didn't appear that complicated from the start, which makes the “easier programming” enhancement seem like a filler in the device's description, to me, at least.

The macros, however, are real and there are now 12 of them, per device. The system now has an auto test feature users can take advantage of when in a hurry and they say the interface will no longer contain ads. It is still compatible with iPhone 3.0 or higher, iPod touch and the iPad and though it has received some functionality boosts, the i-Got-Control's IRB1 accessory retails for the same price it did in March, namely $69.95. The app is free to download.
