As advanced automation machines and kiosk applications become more and more widespread, the demand for higher processing power also becomes direr. And for this reason, AIS (American Industrial Systems) has decided to upgrade the standard configuration of its PanelPC solutions for automation machines and kiosk applications by including high-capacity Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad CPUs.

The AIS Panel PCs come in several mounting designs including IP65/NEMA4 front bezel, panel mount, open frame, or custom designs to fit into a wide range of applications including control cabinets, consoles, machine HMI (Human Machine Interface), industrial automation machines, and kiosks.

The whole range of PanelPC models from AIS is available in fanless ULV (Ultra Low Voltage) designs, up to high power Intel Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad processors, thus being able to suit the requirements of a wide array of customers. The HMI touch screens are also available, adding interactivity to magnify utility and effectiveness of the display. Currently, the Panel PCs come in sizes of 6.4 inches to 20.1 inches.

Additional features include the USB 2.0, RS232/485, and Ethernet ports, as well as support for Windows XP Professional, Embedded or Linux operating systems. Plus, these things are indeed pretty tough, being able to withstand shocks of up to 15G for 11ms (the kind of shocks encountered in the case of industrial operation).

The company is offering quite a few interesting extras for these systems, such as Sunlight Readable Transflective films, privacy films, touch screens, wide voltage range boards, wide temperature range modules, sealed connectors, and shock/vibration resistance. Of course, depending on which extras are chosen, pricing for the AIS systems is likely to increase, but at least the resulting systems will be able to fulfill their required tasks for a long period of time and without requiring any serious maintenance.
