With the advent of rugged devices, smartphone were bound to go this route sooner or later, Intermec's CS40 being marketed as a mobile computer with the size and styling of a smartphone destined to mobile professionals that require high performance barcode scanning and mobile line of business applications.
Running Windows Mobile 6.5 this new device is capable of withstanding multiple four foot drops to concrete on all corners and sides while also being protected against dust and
liquid intrusion thanks to a IP54 rated sealing, so I am sure this could take everything that you can throw at it.
Other features include 3MP camera, 3.75G voice and data communications, an optional
QWERTY keyboard and a high performance 1D/2D barcode scanning thanks to a 2D imager that should prove a lot more faster and reliable then the usual barcode scanning apps that rely on the phone's camera.
