You know, this world definitely lacks compassion. Here we are investing billions into cures for today's incurable diseases when we should be thinking about the real issues concerning our world. Issues such as making the 'Green Plane',
an airplane with environmentally friendly interior materials especially for those customers who like to take their concerns regarding the planet a bit into the realm of the extreme. But enough introduction, time to talk to you about the Southwest Airlines' Boeing 737-700 Green Plane.
Gary Kelly, Southwest's chairman, president, and CEO, made the following statement regarding their newly announced initiative: “Southwest is committed to continuing to lead the industry in emissions reductions through fuel efficiency. Efficiency in fuel consumption benefits our Company as well as the environment, and this has been part of our business model since the beginning […] As we look to the future, we know climate change remains of vital importance to our industry, our Company, and our Customers, so Southwest works hard every day in every area to be a responsible steward of the environment.”
Everything from the carpet that is installed to the seats that feature extreme durability and are made from e-Leather (
eco-friendly leather) is made to be as eco-friendly and as less costing as possible. There are plastic seat rub strips (instead of the usual aluminum ones) and also a life vest pouch that replaces the metal container that was previously present.
I'll leave Gary Kelly to handle the ending of the article: “Southwest is proud to lead the aviation industry in environmental stewardship and honored to be working with these eco-friendly vendors and our partners at Boeing […] We are excited to test their forward-thinking products and expect these green products to not only help the environment, but also create a fuel and materials cost saving for Southwest.”
