With all the hysteria that Apple has caused with its new iPad, everybody that can make something even remotely similar or related to one of Apple's proprietary technologies is releasing its products now. Whether it is multi-touch technologies or simply a stylus designed especially for the iPad, it doesn't really matter, as long as they catch a piece of the market now that it has been shaken by
Steve Jobs' charisma again.
From that genre of product, here is the InvenSense MPU-3000 motion sensing processor that will transform all smartphones into iPhone/iPad-ish machines. It is, however, the world's first motion processing unit that has a three-axis gyroscope and built-in sensor function. So, everybody turn your phones upside down, because the pictures will now follow.
Also, all the games that use motion sensing
technology will start being available for almost all the smartphones out there. That should cripple Apple a little, but I am sure that the fanboys and fangirls will make even better and more interesting apps for the Jesus-Phone, and also now for the bigger iPhone called iPad.
The InvenSense MPU-3000 uses both the SPI and I2C digital interfaces and measures only 4 x 4 x 0.9 mm. For connection to the accelerometer, it also has a secondary I2C interface. The under $4 dollars per unit processing unit has some more integrated tech specs that you might like to hear about. A temperature sensor, internal clock, FSYNC pin for image, GPS or video synchronization. Also, it gives the option to program interrupts for the phone that has it. It will start shipping in Q2 of 2010.
Not to take anybody's side here, but I consider that every phone should have an accelerometer, motion sensing and multi-touch. If a chip that does the motion sensing, accelerometer stuff exists now on the market, and we saw early that
others are developing performant multi-touch technologies, I am curios how long it will take before major manufacturers launch the iPhone Killer.
