Developing computing solutions coated with antimicrobial layers is extremely important for certain market segments, especially the medical and hospitality ones, and for this reason, a company called Janam has just launched the XM66AM and XM60+AM rugged handhelds that support mobility solutions aimed at improving patient safety, streamlining complicated processes and reducing medical errors.
According to Janam, the XM66AM and XM60+AM rugged antimicrobial mobile computers are the only handhelds in their category that offer "whole device" antimicrobial coverage via a continuous protective layer encompassing the scan window, display surface, stylus and screws.
The entire unit – not just the plastic housing – is protected by an antimicrobial coating that effectively kills microorganisms.
The mobile computers deliver a full 3.5" display (240x320 pixels; 262K colors) yet weigh less than 10 ounces and run the Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system, the necessary power being provided by a swappable 3.7V 2000mAh rechargeable Li-ion battery.
They're built around a Freescale i.MX31 processor running at 533MHz, accompanied by 128MB DDR SDRAM, 128MB NAND memory and amn user accessible microSD card slot.
Like all Janam PDA products, the antimicrobial XM66AM and XM60+AM are built to withstand rigorous use in tough environments, surviving repeated 4'/1.2m drops to concrete and sealed to IP54 standards.
Furthermore, fast, reliable omnidirectional 1D and 2D upgradeable barcode scanning helps clinicians, pharmacists and lab technicians improve accuracy and increase patient safety, while the flexible and secure Cisco CCX certified WiFi enables healthcare workers to automatically update data and synchronize information with centralized systems, saving precious time and maintaining patient privacy.
