While the use of the DisplayPort interface is still fairly limited, it's been largely adopted by the famous computer manufacturer from Cupertino, Apple. However, unlike most PCs or notebooks, for example, Mac systems are a bit more difficult to connect to an HDTV, for example, users having to go through a fairly lengthy process in order to be able to duplicate the images from their computer screen onto an LCD or a plasma display.
However, in order to take care of this issue and make the aforementioned process an easier one, the people over at Apogee have decided to introduce the Kanex Mini
DisplayPort with Digital Audio to HDMI adapter, a device that, according to the manufacturer, is able to deliver clear high quality digital audio and video through the use of the Apple minijack.
As MacBook users can testify, in order to obtain an audio output from their notebook, they had to either use the 3.5mm audio jack to RCA that produced only analog audio or to use the headphone port, which is also the Apple minijack, and then output audio to their HDTV through Toslink. However, the new
adapter manages to take care of this issue, allowing users to connect to their HDTV models and get the high digital quality home theater experience.
The Kanex Mini DisplayPort with Digital Audio to HDMI adapter features a USB 2.0 input able to supply power to the adapter, but also supports HDMI 165 MHz, 1.65Gbps per channel, and like the first generation adapter, HDMI resolutions of up to 1080p and 8 bit per channel.
Additionally, the Kanex Mini
DisplayPort with Digital Audio to HDMI adapter manufactured by Apogee is able to support uncompressed audio such as LPCM, but also compressed audio DTS Digital such as DTS-HD and Dolby True HD formats.
Pricing for the device from Apogee is set at around 70 US dollars, which is a fairly good price point, given the advantages it provides for the Mac users out there.
