Up until now, SSDs were regarded by most users as some “Sci-Fi” storage solutions, which, indeed, are able to seriously boost up a PC's or notebook's level of performance, but for a sum very few people were willing to spend (with price-per-GB ratio far inferior to HDDs). However, it would seem that Kingston, one of the leading innovators in the field of solid-state drive solutions, is willing to change this situation, since it's just announced a new SSD offering that will certainly prove to be quite appealing to a more mainstream audience.
So, the memory manufacturer has just announced the release of the Kingston SSDNow V Series 40GB Accelerator Drive, the latest addition to its SSDNow V “Value” family of solid-state drives (SSD). The drive offers some pretty interesting tech specs, reaching read speeds of up to 170MB/sec. and write speeds of up to 40MB/sec.
Moreover, besides being able to purchase just the drive, users can also go for the all-in-one bundle kit that includes cloning software, 2.5-inch to 3.5-inch brackets and SATA data and power cable extenders. The included cloning software and step-by-step instructions make it simple to move the contents of one’s existing hard-disk drive (HDD) to the SSDNow.
“The SSDNow V Series 40GB Accelerator Drive offers instant performance enhancement and lower power consumption on existing systems at a fraction of the cost of a new system,” said Ariel Perez, SSD business manager, Kingston Digital. “In real-world numbers this means that by upgrading with an SSDNow 40GB drive, you can speed up open and close times of web browsers such as Internet Explorer or Firefox, and programs like iTunes or Photoshop by almost 4 times over existing regular desktops hard-disk drives.”
And Mr. Perez is in fact quite right, since pricing for the new SSDNow V Series 40GB Accelerator Drive is actually extremely appealing. So, users who opt for the desktop bundle will have to pay around 123 US dollars or 89 Euro, while those who only go for the SSD itself will have to cough up an estimate 117 US dollars (or 72 Euro). Well, I'm willing to bet that at least some of you are already starting to re-check your Christmas budgets in order to include this little device.
