SMSC has made it public that its own Kleer wireless audio technology has been chosen by Daimler AG to be implemented in the rear seat entertainment system of their 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class and S-Class models. The two Mercedes-Benz models are the very first cars
that will take advantage of the Kleer technology, and join the wide array of products that deliver consumers high-quality wireless audio from the aforementioned maker.
"We are pleased to announce Daimler AG's selection of Kleer technology in these two prestigious Mercedes- Benz models," said Dr. Christian Thiel, Vice President and General Manager of SMSC's Automotive Information Systems group. "Kleer's high quality audio, exceptional radio performance and industry-leading low power consumption make it an
ideal choice for streaming wireless audio in the portable, home and automotive markets."
It's quite easy to understand how come Daimler AG chose Kleer, as soon as you realize that it's one of the few companies that have the technology necessary to deliver wireless CD-quality audio. Case in point, the solution will be embedded in the two video screens on the back of the seats, and provide wireless signal for headphones in both E-Class and S-Class models from Mercedes-Benz, just like you can see in the diagram above.
"Consumer demand for in-vehicle multimedia experiences continues to grow at a rapid pace, and wireless audio is a crucial element," stated Mark Fitzgerald, associate director, Global Automotive Practice at Strategy Analytics. "
Wireless solutions that offer high quality audio and low power characteristics are positioned well in this expanding market."
Not only is Kleer ensuring a high-quality audio experience for passengers, but also comes around the common IR technology that has been used for this means for years. Besides the branded Mercedes-Benz headphones, users also have the possibility of employing their headphones or in-ears choice from AKG, Sennheiser or TDK.
