It is truly amazing how much robots have evolved in the last twenty years or so. We are nowadays able to see advanced machines that are not only technology milestones, but very practical solutions to man's most common problems. In the past, you could see some devices/gadgets built specifically for the elderly or for the disabled, but those gadgets cannot be compared with the Robosoft Kompai robot at any level.
Robosoft is a French company that manufactures robots for quite some time now and they have finally completed the R&D Kompai, the ultimate machine for assisting the elders when you aren't able to do so.
As a matter of fact, with extremely fine tuned voice recognition and a multitude of functions, the elderly in your life will not need you anymore. It has a built-in camera, built-in voice calling system, speakers and a rechargeable pad where it goes automatically when it runs out of juice.
This is the most advanced tool for helping the disabled I have seen so far and it will be presented by its maker next week at the Intercompany Long Term Care Insurance Conference in New Orleans. It is a device "intended for developers who would like to implement their own robotics applications for assistance," as Vincent Dupourqué, CEO of Robosoft, said in a statement.
The video I got from IEEESpectrum is more than relevant as you will be able to see for yourselves. The Kompai robot may not look like much at first glance, but its overall capabilities are going to prove themselves more than useful for anyone who knows an older person that needs taking care of. Here are some “spoilers” just so I make sure you will be watching this machine at work.
The Kompai from Robosoft can alert a doctor in a matter of seconds via email service, can understand a lot of common words that will help the person using it keep track of appointments, do some shopping and a lot more.
We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is .
I thought the Kompai video on the Kompai robot from Robosoft wierd and funny, particularly because it is acted in such a deadpan way. The fact that the robot has the voice of a young woman adds to the humour. She plays opposite to a depressed old man and the two personalities have nothing in common. They communicate verbally but not emotionally and that is what makes the video so funny. Also the fact that he has a strong French accent adds to the whimsy.
