I was expecting a lot more from the 2009 Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin (IFA) Expo. In terms of innovation I mean. Especially with companies such as Sony or LG attending.
Speaking of LG, it recently announced the attempt at setting new standards in television with its BORDERLESS TVs, proving that its LIVE BORDERLESS theme is not just a placeholder, but actually a
noteworthy concept.
The SL8000 and SL9000
LCD TVs look like they have been built from one single, mate sheet of glass and represent LG's success at creating the first TVs that completely eliminate the space between the screen and surrounding bezel. No more looking at your favorite actors as if they were encased in a plastic box. The SL9000 LED TV offers a dynamic contrast ratio of 3.000.000:1, as well as Bluetooth and HD DivX compatibility.
“We want LG to be the top name in home entertainment. To make that happen we’ve listened closely to our customers and invested heavily in product development,” said Simon Kang, CEO and President of LG Home Entertainment Company. “The BORDERLESS™ TVs we’re introducing at IFA 2009 show exactly what we’ve accomplished, setting new standards in home entertainment. These TVs look better than any others on the market and the viewing experience they provide is second-to-none.”
The SL8000 features full HD 1080p capabilities, TruMotion 200Hz technology, as well as a dynamic contrast ratio of 150.000:1. The Intelligent Sensor the TVs come equipped with makes sure that energy consumption will be at an all time low! Built with the help of a new Injection Compression Molding technique, these TVs are the first of a few other innovative technologies that LG recently introduced. I've no idea as to when these TVs will be released nor do I know their price but were I to make an assumption, I'd wager they will cost more than most of us can afford!
