There's no denying the incredible practical use of projectors, be they 3D projectors or normal data projectors. They basically offer new and better ways of expressing ourselves. You can use words but also images, text and so on. Not to mention the awesomeness of playing a game while the image is projected onto a huge screen.
However, the problem with projectors is that most of them are expensive and usually need lamp replacing pretty quickly. Well, here's where Texas Instruments comes in with two new projectors. First is a new affordable 3D single-projector; the other is a lamp-free LED data projector.
The Single Chip LED DLP solution is meant to be used in the digital cinema industries and especially in classrooms, where it is hoped that it will allow a more dynamic, realistic and interactive learning experience. Kids will be able to actually live among the dinosaurs or see the evolution of man. Sure beats textbooks!
Trudy LeDoux, director of technology for Dickson Independent School District, declared the following, “After seeing the DLP 3D projection demonstration, I am envisioning endless possibilities for enhancing the learning of our students. […] Imagine how engaging and impactful a biology lesson in 3D can be that digitally dissects the tiniest of organisms, or an art history lesson that lets each brush stroke of a masterpiece be retraced. Today’s students expect that kind of reality.”
As for the LED lamp-free data projector, it plans to remove the need to replace or maintain lamps, therefore radically lowering maintenance costs. According to Roger Carver, manager of DLP’s front projection business, “Our goal is to enable our customers to provide businesses and schools with lower-cost solutions that provide a more immersive learning experience. […] No lamps to maintain. No filter to clean. No problems.”
Looking forward to seeing these new technologies in the wild.
