Beside the “usual” DSLRs and compact cameras, we're also seeing several special-editions cameras find their way to the audience at Photokina, perhaps the most impressive (and coveted) being Leica's new M9 “Titanium” edition camera.
According to
Engadget, only 500 units of this new limited-edition will ever be manufactured, which instantly turns it into a collector's item.
As you might have guessed already, the name comes from the fact that most of the metallic parts are manufactured from titanium, which means that this thing is quite durable.
Plus, the M9 “Titanium” is also coated with a fingerprint-resistant overlay, and the bundle is slated to include the camera itself, a 35mm Summilux F/1.4 prime
lens, lens hood, a new carrying concept (just a single hook for a carry strap) and a new electronic illumination system.
Apparently, the new Leica cameras will be ready for shipment at some point in November, but the pricing has not been yet disclosed (although we're ready to bet that these things will cost more than a car).
If you've already started dreaming about getting this special, limited edition (and you actually have the money to do so), you should try to order it as soon as possible, since it seems that almost all of the 500 units to be produced already have a future owner's tag attached to them.
