Over the years, Leica has come up with a wide range of products, including here quite a few digital cameras and other optical devices, most of which, however, are targeting those consumers willing to pay the premium brought about by the fact that they're purchasing a Leica product. And in the case of the PRADOVIT D-1200, which happens to be the company's first ever projector, that premium is quite high, despite the fact that the device's overall configuration is similar to that of much more affordable products.
As with all the Leica products out there, the new PRADOVIT D-1200 offers users a couple of very impressive features, as far as both the optics and the quality of the projected images are concerned. Hence, the projector is built on Texas Instruments' DLP technology and can attain a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels, as well as a contrast ratio of around 2500:1.
Furthermore, the D-1200 comes equipped with the LEICA VARIO-ELMARIT-P 1:2,8-3,1/33-42 mm/59 mm-74 mm (equiv.)/t.r. 1,6-2,0:1 objective, which can be used for a projection range of 1 to 15 meters with a screen width of 0.5 to 9 meters. The diagonal size of the projected images, however, can vary between 0.6 to 11 metres.
Leica's PRADOVIT projector also provides quite a hefty amount of light, since it is equipped with a 220W FusionPlus VIDI UHP bulb from Philips that generates up to a maximum 2000 ANSI lumen and has a functioning life of up to 3000 hours (for standard applications). Furthermore, the engineers from Leica have managed to keep the operational noise level at a minimum, namely just around 28 dB.
As far as the connectivity options are concerned, the Pradovit D-1200 comes packed with a wide array of interfaces, namely HDMI 1.3 and DVI, plus standard composite and S-video interfaces, as well as LAN and VGA ports.
As mentioned right from the start, Leica's PRADOVIT D-1200 projector follows the company's trend as far as pricing is concerned and is one very expensive device, selling for around 13,500 US dollars.
