In case you didn't know, car manufacturer Lexus likes to show their prototype of hybrid bicycle from time to time. Since its introduction at the Tokyo Auto Show in 2009, the bike has not made any public appearance as it is not going into production any time soon. Now, Lexus flaunts it again, because they are official sponsors of the Great British Bike Ride, but apart from that, if you know it from last year, nothing has changed.
The same “L-finesse” (pardon their French), design and the same hybrid way of riding provided by the Lexus Hybrid Bicycle Concept. Now, what they wanted to prove to the world with this bike is the fact that they can build it, making it seem like a side project of some sort. The company is not even considering getting this bike inside its production plants and would like us to admire the already existing two prototypes.
If it ever goes into production, you should know that the Lexus Hybrid Bicycle Concept is equipped with the Hybrid Drive technology that Lexus has put into all of its famous hybrid cars, an electric eight-speed transmission and its whole body is made out of lightweight
carbon fiber. You know the materials that were used to build Valentino Rossi's MotoGP winning bike? Of course you do, this is why I'm telling you this bike uses them.
The motor of this bike has a 240 W capacity and draws power from a 25.9 V Lithium-ion battery. The engine has Eco and Power modes and works the old fashioned way, meaning it will aid you when you don't feel like pedaling. The battery is powered
every time you brake and the gear system is the same as that of the Lexus 600h limousine. If it ever enters production, I am sure the price for a Lexus Hybrid Bicycle will be
quite impressive as well. More on
