In 2002, Jorn Werdelin and Morten Linde partnered to develop a new concept: a luxury sports watch on which a professional digital instrument clips to provide the right level of information at the right time. And they've been incredibly successful and appreciated ever since. The latest accomplishment of the company is a limited edition of 44 timepieces in DLC (diamond like carbon) covered titanium, but the most noticeable of them is the SpidoLite watch.
Well, this is a really cool new watch, which is actually part old watch. Frankly, it takes a bit of involvement in the industry to fully "get" this watch. Maybe you don't know who Svend Andersen is, or why Linde Werdelin chose to use a 1970s NOS automatic movement for a thoroughly modern timepiece. In a nutshell, it is a clever way to produce something really individual, based on unique partnerships, and a process that other companies can't easily replicate.
The dial is partially skeletized with a view into the timepiece's movement. Retaining the ability to have a Linde Werdelin Instrument attach to the face of the watch, the SpidoLite is a new breed from the impressive luxury sports watch maker. The familiar large case sits comfortably on one's wrist with one of the industry's best high-grade rubber straps.
Other versions of the new limited edition SpidoLite watch include an all titanium version (no DLC coating) and a black DLC coated version with a yellow tint applied sapphire crystal for the ultimate "check me out" look. The SpidoLite watches will be officially unveiled at Baselworld 2009 in April.
The edition is limited to 222, 44, and 44 pieces for the different versions of the SpidoLite line (titanium, DLC, yellow sapphire). If you fancy a timepiece like that, you should start saving right now because, apparently, the Linde Werdelin limited edition watches will retail somewhere around 10, 000 US dollars.
