Although most computer systems available today are designed to boast an internal DVD-ROM optical drive, the market continues to expand towards the general adoption of the better and newer technology of Blu-ray. System vendors are currently providing users with options for an integrated DVD optical drive, or a Blu-ray disc, letting them plan their budget in a more convenient way.
For those that want to upgrade their rig to one of the latest Blu-ray disc optical drives on the market, Lite-On has recently announced an updated version of its iHOS104, a 4x BD-ROM drive that is said to provide users with an affordable alternative to similar products available on the market.
“Slowly but surely the Blu-ray Disc format is growing in popularity. By reducing the end-user price of a Blu-ray Disc playback device for PCs, Lite-On facilitates consumers who want to upgrade their system to enjoy High Definition content playback on their PC from a Blu-ray Disc, without making a high investment,” said Jelmer Veldman, Marketing Manager for Lite-On in Europe.
“Furthermore, the BD-ROM drive has a high value Cyberlink software package included, which will change the way people watch video content from a PC&,rdquo; added Veldman.
Among some of the features that have been enabled on Lite-On's latest solution, we need to highlight the use of a SATA interface, a 2MB buffer memory, and speeds of 4x for BD-ROM, BD-R, and BD-RE, 8x for DVD-ROM and 32x for CD-ROM.
For added value, the solution has been bundled with CyberLink's TrueTheater HD software that is meant to provide entertainment enthusiasts with a high-quality visual experience for PC-based home-theater systems.
As for pricing and availability, the company announced that the iHOS104 would be available for a suggested price of 89 Euro (incl. VAT).
