Given the current leaps forward in the field of robotics, it's becoming quite clear that, in just a couple of years' time, cleaning robots will become standard in a lot of households all over the world, with Samsung's NaviBot (or most likely, its successors) being one of the top models.
As some of you might remember, the NaviBot was first showcased to the world back at IFA 2010, but now, during the local “Experience Samsung Tour” event, we've had the chance to see live what this little thing can do.
And, to be perfectly honest, the little cleaning robot's behavior was nothing short of impressive, the device going around like crazy on the showroom floor in order to sweep all the dust and debris.
Plus, beside of the fact that it does manage to do a pretty good job at
cleaning up the floors, Samsung's robot also sports a very interesting external look, one that will certainly manage to fit in, especially if your household has more of a contemporary/modern décor.
Anyway, leaving apart the design, what really makes this thing so interesting is the fact that it's capable of moving in complete autonomy over many different surfaces, delivering a
powerful cleaning performance even on carpets and rugs.
NaviBot is driven by two CPU control chips that run an innovative, intelligent navigation program, allowing the NaviBot to see a home and remember where it is at all times in relation to objects and the charging base.
A small integrated camera provides a Visionary Mapping System, which takes 30 photos per second of a room and using these images, the NaviBot creating a virtual map of a home, identifying the exact location of obstacles such as furniture and interior decorations.
Also, if one charge is not enough to finish cleaning a particular area, the NaviBot automatically returns to its docking station and fully recharges within 2 hours.
Brushes at either side of the device enable faster and better cleaning performance, when cleaning edges and a Sweeping Blade takes over after the Power Brush has done its job, to help collect additional dirt and debris.
There are plenty more interesting things to be said about the NaviBot, and if you're curious to find out more on this topic, you can check our
