Gadgets have known a tremendous development in the recent years, companies in the field bombarding users with new devices constantly, up to the point that the market may seem close to saturation. Remote controllers have been somehow discriminated over time, meaning that they have been given less importance than TV sets or MP3 players, let's say.

But that time has probably come to an end, thanks to sophisticated remote controllers, with multiple functions and original, creative design, such as the Harmony One Advanced Universal Remote.

Design

She says: You can see, from a first glance, that this remote controller means business. This is the impression that its sleek design leaves you with. The piano black and silver combination is stylish and classy enough to fit in any home décor, while its ergonomic design transcends its highly technological aspect, making it more accessible and pleasant to the eye. The full-color touch screen and the intuitive button layout are definitely a plus.

He says: The Harmony One has a very functional design, with an ergonomic form factor, which will certainly feel somewhat “natural” to touch. It's rather curvy case will most likely be quite easy to grasp, while the placement of the control buttons (quite logical and intuitive) will help users maneuver it a lot easier during the night, for example. And, more importantly, given just how cool this thing look, it will certainly be something to flaunt to the boys when they come over for beer or a game of poker.

Features

She says: The Harmony One replaces up to 15 remotes and allows easy one-touch access to various entertainment activities, such as DVD or TV watching, listening to music and more. The backlit and prominent buttons make it easier to find the right channel, even in the dark. Moreover, there's no need to worry about replacing the batteries, as this remote features a rechargeable design.

He says: The Harmony One might look cool, but what really makes it so interesting is the large number of functions it can carry out. Thus, it can replace up to 15 remotes, which is quite a good thing especially for those people that own extensive home entertainment systems, comprised of at least 5 or 6 components (DVD players, satellite receivers, Blu-ray players, gaming consoles, etc.).

Another interesting thing worth mentioning here is related to the battery. Unlike most other remotes, which sport normal, alkaline batteries (that we always forget to replace in due time), the Harmony One has a rechargeable, Li-ion power pack, which can be very easily juiced-up whenever it's actually needed.

Performance

She says: Harmony One's online database supports more than 225,00 devices, from more than 5,000 brands, and the list is updated permanently. This means that the chances that this remote doesn't go with your home-entertainment devices are microscopical. It comes with a charging station, USB cable, AC adapter, Lithium-ion battery and installation CD and guide.

He says: As mentioned earlier, the level of performance delivered by the Logitech Harmony One is what really makes it so attractive, rather than its specific design features. And that's because this universal remote control allows owners to control an absolutely astounding number of devices, namely up to 225,00 devices, from more than 5,000 brands.

Practically, regardless of the type of electronic device you own, chances are that you'll be able to control it by using the Harmony One, fast and easy. Plus, if any of the devices from your home entertainment system doesn't work with the Harmony One, you can always connect the device to your PC and update the database by accessing the company's website.

User friendly

She says: The remote's ergonomic design makes it incredibly user-friendly, and the well positioned buttons help. Also contributing to this aspect there are the easy-to-read touch screen, along with the guided online setup, which will make the job easy, even for a gadgetry uninitiate.

He says: The Logitech Harmony One has been designed to be used by a very wide range of customers, whether we're talking about tech savvy users or complete noobs. For this reasons, the controls are pretty simple and straightforward, pretty much anyone with at least an ounce of analytical thinking being able to figure out how it works.

However, if you're having trouble setting the remote up, you can always go online and access the guided setup, which will guide you through the most important steps of this process.

Value for money

She says: The Harmony One universal remote from Logitech retails for approximately 250 US dollars, a rather high price for such a device. But if you think about the fact that you'll practically save time and space, by replacing all your other remotes with this elegant gadget, it might just prove to be worth it.

He says: Logitech's Harmony One has a retail price of around 250 US dollars. While this sum might seem rather high for such a product, the truth of the matter is that it's all money well spent. After all, what will happen when your normal remotes will start failing (and they WILL start failing, sooner or later)? Plus, isn't it a lot better to keep just one remote on your coffee table, rather than 5 or six?

Cool Factor

She says: This remote comes with features and specifications that appeal to both men and women, its manufacturers trying to conciliate the both worlds. However, even though it's original enough, and even a little bit futuristic, to stand the test of time, its features may soon become obsolete, judging by the fast pace of gadgets' development.

He says: Of course, only time will tell whether the Logitech Harmony One will still be appealing to users after a few years, but given the evolution of universal remote controls, it's quite likely that it will be around for quite some time, most likely until full-touchscreen remotes become affordable enough as to be purchased by just about anyone.
