It really seems that there are a lot of people out there who're quite interested in recording on video just about everything they see in front of their eyes, since a company called Looxcie has just released a tiny, wearable camcorder that can be worn around the year just as a Bluetooth headset.
And we haven't started talking about the aforementioned type of product for nothing, because the Looxcie actually doubles as one, letting users pair it with a mobile phone for voice calls.
According to the manufacturer, the Looxcie utilizes a dual processor system for video and Bluetooth communication so the headset can operate in video mode and talk mode at the same time, or separately.
Looxcie uses a mini processor for Bluetooth that includes a digital signal processing system to process and optimize the audio.
The camcorder's mini video processor includes software by Looxcie that optimizes power use, automatically corrects for light and color, and formats video for mobile devices.
And since we've reached the topic of video recording, let's explain just how this thing works.
So, the
tiny camera is always on, always videoing and, when an unexpected moment occurs, a press of the instant clip button captures the last 30 seconds of video and stores it as a permanent clip on the device.
Plus, the accompanying Looxcie smartphone application also turns the phone into a viewfinder, remote control and editing tool for creating clips up to 30 minutes in length.
Always on battery life allows up to 4 hrs of continuous video use and more than 6 hours of continuous talk time when the
video capability is not on.
Memory-wise, the on-board storage can hold up to 4 hrs of video and hundreds of instant clips (3 hrs of clips), recorded with the help of the 15 FPS, HVGA resolution camera.
"Looxcie frees people to remain engaged in what they're doing rather than be burdened by the technology," said Looxcie CEO Romulus Pereira.
"We built Looxcie with the goal of freeing people to participate in life's moments as they happen, and to share these excerpts on the go, rather than wait until after the event and excitement has passed."
Looxcie will be available for sale beginning today for a suggested retail price of $199, which is a relatively OK price point, given the device's enhanced versatility.
