MSI, just like another company entitled Dell, has accustomed us with its habit of presenting a laptop every two weeks or so. And here comes MSI’s latest release: the GT729 gaming laptop, a device that is meant to squeeze everything it can from its microchips. Let us see what this baby can do, shall we?
Well, the GT729 has the following (impressive) specs: it is powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, has a 17-inch TFT-LCD Display, ATi Mobility Radeon HD 4850 graphics adapter with 1GB of video memory, a maximum of 4GB DDR3 Random Access Memory, a 4.1 system (the 1 stands for subwoofer), features a 2MP webcam, Ethernet and Wireless connectivity, as well as optional Bluetooth.
Three USB 2.0 ports, the usual 4-in-1 card reader, HDMI output, E-SATA, 320 or 500 GB SATA HDD and the possibility of choosing between a Blu-Ray and DVD Optical Drive complete the specs list. Since MSI’s laptops have all been using Turbo Drive Engine Technology ever since MSI invented it, you will, of course, be able to overclock your CPU at the press of a button. It is also very green seeing how MSI is using the ECO Engine power management system.
You know, the one that lets you switch between gaming mode, movie mode, presentation mode, office mode and so on. I wonder whether it has a Depeche Mode (the younger generation should “YouTube” Depeche Mode for some seriously great tunes)… mode. As for the design, it features a combination of aluminum threads, while the flame design gives it a sense of speed and power. Cutting to the chase, it means it is identical to almost any other gaming laptop that MSI has ever designed.
Honestly, it is a good, solid laptop, but the design lacks in that the maker keeps using the cliché black with red stripes flaming motif. Most gamers hate the flaming design. Wake up, MSI!
