While we're sick and tired of the whole seemingly endless line of netbooks that keep arriving on the market, it's nice to see a CULV-based device show up from time to time, especially if we're talking about a product that combines a fairly attractive external design with some pretty decent specs. And this is the case with the particular gadget you'll read about as follows, namely the Wind12 U200 ultra-portable system, which has just been introduced by MSI.

The U200 is quite a looker, featuring a smooth and sleek external design, as well as a very slim form factor. Hence, the portable computing system has a footprint smaller than a sheet of A4 paper (297 x 190 mm) and weighs just around 1.4 kilos (battery included), which makes it extremely easy for users to carry it around wherever they might decide to go.

The U200 is built around an Intel Penryn SFF ULV Processor 723 (SU3500), accompanied by a GS45 + ICH9M-SFFVGA chipset, a GMA 4500 MHD video controller, and up to 4GB of DDR2 memory. The storage issue is being taken care of by a 2.5-inch SATA HDD, whose capacity ranges between 160 and 320GB, while MSI is providing three different battery versions (3/6/9 cells), each delivering a different functioning life (up to 6.5 hours using the 6-cell battery).

Another important point of attraction is represented by the 12.1-inch HD ready (1366 x 768 pixels) 16:9 aspect ratio glittering crystal frameless screen. The display not only gives the appearance of a stylish and high quality design, it is also dust and scratch resistant. Moreover, it features an LED back-lighting system, which helps in keeping the power consumption at a low level.

The U200 features an HDMI output port that easily connects with an LCD TV, but also a wide assortment of other connectivity options, including here 10/100/1000 LAN interface, 802.11 b/g/n module, four-in-one memory card reader (support SD, MMC, MS, XD), mic-in / headphone out, 3 x USB 2.0 ports, as well as RJ-45 and D-Sub interfaces on the side.

The new MSI Wind12 U200 should arrive in stores in the near future, with estimated price tags being set between 500 and 700 Euro, depending on the particular version chosen.
