The Scrabble Keyboard

While modern keyboard designers have managed to outdo themselves (just take a look at the G19, for example), the truth of the matter is that the most attractive such peripherals you'll find on the market are not the stock ones, but rather those custom-built by various modders. And that's exactly the case with the following item, the Scrabble Keyboard, a device that every person who's ever played Scrabble will most likely find to be extremely attractive.

The Scrabble Keyboard is the work of Richard R. Nagy, a modder who also goes by the name of Datamancer, and, as he informs us, was commissioned by some friends of his that are really passionate about Scrabble.

The peripheral took quite a long time to complete, since most of the keys used with it are actually real Scrabble tiles than have been beveled manually and then installed onto a USB mechanical switch keyboard. Furthermore, since it was going to be attached to a Mac system, the Datamancer decided to use brushed aluminum for the casing and round all of the corners, so that it might fit the overall design philosophy of Apple's systems.

However, in order to add a bit of industrial look to the whole design, Mr. Nagy also included some silver hardware and a seam. Another interesting feature is the fact that the Num, Caps, and Scroll Lock LEDs shine through the tiles, since the actual lettering has been cut out.

While the artist (we can't simply call him a modder, can we now?) doesn't provide an actual price tag for the Scrabble keyboard, his website's FAQ section does tackle this issue, mentioning the fact that the price of a keyboard ranges between $1200 to $1500 or more depending on the complexity and intricacy of the design, the choice of metals, options, finish, etc.

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is .
