Although the Vaio P netbook has just recently made it to the stores outside Japan and relatively few people have actually managed to get a close, hands-on experience with the thing, it would seem that the most “intrepid” of them have already started doing all sorts of “nasty” stuff to Sony's Lifestyle PC, including making it run some operating system designed for a whole brand of devices, namely the Mac OS X.
This story starts from the
Pocketables forum, where a user going by the name of coldmack has posted the photo of a Vaio P running the Mac OS X. The photo is clearly modified using some image-editing software, but what's not so clear is whether the screenshot of Apple's operating system is applied afterwards or the Vaio P is genuinely running the OS X.
There are several reasons why this photo should be taken with a pretty big pinch of salt, one of the first being related to some previous tests, which have showed that the Vaio P is
not exactly fantastic at running either Windows Vista or the future Windows 7. Of course, some might say that the Mac OS X has been designed in such a way as to run smoothly on less powerful machines as well, but those are just unsubstantiated arguments. Plus, even the users from the forum where the image was initially posted have some very solid arguments regarding the very serious issues that can be encountered by anyone trying to install and run Apple's OS on the Vaio P netbook.
Plus, it's really difficult to tell whether the photo is fake or not, although there is one suspiciously fake-looking line in the upper side of the Vaio P's display. However, if the user who posted this photo comes up with some video proof, then yes, that would really be interesting, although I sincerely doubt that it will boost the P's sales figures in any way.
