I bet most of you have grown tired by now of hearing about new PNDs coming from either Garmin or
TomTom, as these two companies seem to have taken up the market completley. We're not sure what's with the silence from the other manufacturers out there, but they are probably cooking up major releases, like
Magellan here, with their RoadMate spring lineup. They are now announcing no less than 10 new PNDs, with various options, features and prices, so that you can now truly have a choice in this orientation matter.
Though Garmin realized that GPS devices are headed to extinction (see the
nuvi 295W), Magellan sticks to the original product design and hereby launches 10 RoadMate PNDs with touchscreens ranging from 4.3 to 5 inches and with lifetime traffic on all of them.
Although you would expect the Magellan RoadMate 5045 with 5-inch display to be the most expensive, it is not. The best and most pricey is actually the Magellan RoadMate 3065 model, which offers a 4.7-inch touchscreen and includes the Traffic Wakeup feature. It is the only one of the 10 that has it. Also, Bluetooth is only supported by the 3065 model and the Magellan RoadMate 3055 version, also sporting 4.7-inch screen, but available at a $249 price point.
Another allmost common feature of these 10 new GPS systems from Magellan is the AAA TourBook and lane guidance integration, with the 2035 model being the only one that doesn't have them. This device is also the most affordable of them all, with a $169.99 price tag and limited lifetime traffic (only continental US, Hawaii and Puerto Rico).
There are PNDs in the new Magellan lineup that include lifetime map updates, such as the RoadMate 3045-LM, the 3045-MU and the 2036-MU. The last two only come with one free map update. More info about these new PNDs is available on
Slashgear and
GPS track log.
We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there.
