The development of technology is not entirely a good thing and you can tell that by the increase of advanced weaponry, which most of the times is not used in a proper way, but enough about that, as the subject is another here. It has been proven over the recent years that technology and especially gaming gadgets can have a bad influence on people, creating all sorts of manias and even disorders (including physical ones).
The latest odd event involving gaming gadgets, even though the motivation was not one related to this field, represents a hostage situation that recently took place in Brazil. A man held a woman prisoner for 10 hours using a Sega Light Phaser, the light gun that shipped with the Sega Master System, which must be fairly common in Brazil, considering how incredibly popular the 8-bit console was in the country (it was one of Sega's strongest markets).
According to Brazilian reports, the man broke into a house in Samambaia, a city near Brazil's capital, to get the owners pay a debt of 42 reales, the equivalent of 111 US dollars. It may seem odd to you how come the woman did not try to escape, considering the fact that the man was threatening her with a toy gun, but it seems that the guy went in with a bit more equipment than that, as he also had two kitchen knives on him. Now, those weren't toys...
Fortunately, after 10 hours of negotiation with the police, the man released his hostage unharmed. According to the police, the man had previous charges for killing and drug abuse. This kind of explains why he actually used the Sega Light Phaser after all. I just wonder what would have happened if he had been a Wii fanatic.
We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there.
