Given the fact that the iPhone and iPod have pretty much taken complete charge of the portable multimedia playback space, it should come as no surprise that even some of the world's best-known manufacturers of audiophile-grade equipment (such as Marantz) are starting to provide extensive support for the aforementioned Apple products, including here the latest (and possible coolest) iTunes-related feature, AirPlay.
So, Marantz announced the fact that the SR7005 A/V Receiver, AV7005 A/V Pre-amplifier, NA7004 Network Audio Player/Tuner and Melody Media (M-CR603) Networked CD Receiver will include AirPlay support, that, however, will be unlocked after applying a firmware update.
If you're not really familiar with the AirPlay technology (although you can't really call yourself an Apple fan if that's the case), you should know that it allows users to stream iTunes music from their PC or Mac on their home network, but access to artist information, album art and elapsed and remaining time.
Ken Ishiwata, brand ambassador of Marantz noted that “Marantz has always been at the forefront of every music packaged media playback, be it mono LP, stereo LP, CD and SACD.
However people’s lifestyle and needs changed.
Nowadays the use of iPod and iPhone is very popular and rapidly increasing.
That is why it is quite a natural step for Marantz to make AirPlay possible on our products and we strongly believe this way of listening music will bring Marantz closer to people”, Mr. Ishiwata concluded.
The firmware update that enables AirPlay support won't be free, users having to cough up around 50 Euro for it when it becomes available in November, which, as far as we're concerned, is a bit ridiculous, given the fact that Marantz equipment is by no means affordable in the first place.
