You've probably noticed my affinity for Bang & Olufsen. Those are my favorite audio devices (the fact I can't afford them is secondary). Another audio manufacturer I like very much for both design and acoustics is Martin Logan (I bow to whom has heard of it).

Now, they have come up with a hybrid speaker, named the Summit X. This is its first hybrid electrostatic speaker that brings controlled dispersion to low frequencies. The crossover network is a Vojtko Voiced that applies variable phasing right near the crossover point, therefore the Summit X Controlled Dispersion PoweredForce technology ensure completely seamless blending with the XStat transducer.

The vertical dispersion is controlled by four innovative modular feet over a 12-degree range, while the 25Hz and 50Hz level controls fine-tune woofer output to provide smooth, clean and powerful bass throughout the tonal range.

Speaking of bass, Martin Logan's Summit X feature laser engineered dual 10-inch low-distortion aluminium cone woofer. Having the precision of such a tool allowed the engineers to accurately understand performance parameters of the prototype woofer right from the beginning of the design process. Having that data, they were able to refine the woofer and crossover design in order to obtain a powerful low-frequency performance and detail-rich sound at the same time.

Enough with bass, let's see who sings for us. It's the XStat electrostatic transducer that provides the mid-range and high-range frequencies. Using advanced MicroPerf stator technology, the latest CLS electrostatic transducer can have twice as much exposed diaphragm surface as a traditional electrostatic panel of the same size. That much of an increase in the effective radiating area can only translate into higher efficiency, even more effortless and unlimited dynamic sound presentation.

The XStat panels are secured to the speaker cabinets using MartinLogan's AirFrame technology. AirFrames are manufactured from aerospace-grade billet and extruded aluminium alloy and that makes the panels extremely rigid without obstructing the playable surface area or interfering with the dipole sound radiation.

Just like my all time favorite, Bang & Olufsen, MartinLogan's speakers are anything but cheap or affordable, priced at $13,995 retail US. While coming in a variety of aluminium and hand-rubbed wood finishes, the SummitX can be personalized to match your exact ambient.
