You know, it's not exactly easy to talk about aesthetics when notebook batteries are concerned. After all, they're just accessories, designed to provide as much power as possible, and to allow users to work on their computers for longer periods of time. However, there are few exceptions, when these things simply don't fit with the overall design of the notebook they're meant to power, and that's exactly the case with the 10-cell battery available for Eee PCs.
The story goes like this. One user from the eeeuser website forum,
lqbweb, ordered a 10-cell battery for his Asus Eee PC 901. However, much to his surprise, after installing it, he noticed what everyone can also see from the photo: the battery is way, way too large for the 901's form factor. Sure, it most likely fits the 1000H model very well (it's designed to work with that particular version too), but on the 901 it looks like it's been artificially grafted there.
Of course, leaving aside the aesthetic aspect, the battery's features are actually very impressive. The 10-cell unit is rated at 13000mAh (96w/hr), and should provide around 10 – 14 hours of continuous use. While 10 hours of non-stop usage may seem like a dream for a lot of users out there, there is one major issue in the way: that of the weight.
After all, the Eee PC is marketed as a netbook, namely as a device whose very high level of portability represents its main selling point. That portability would be seriously hindered by such a battery, especially if we’re also talking about a heavier model (such as this one). Of course, some people would most likely trade the aesthetic and weight factors for the extra-functioning time, but that's a choice every user in particular has to make.
