Without a doubt,
Mercedes-Benz's S-Class cars are some of the most advanced (and beautiful) vehicles around, combining advanced design features with top-notch automotive technology. And now, these high-end vehicles will be even more attractive, since they'll allow drivers and passengers alike to enjoy the high-quality, audiophile-grade audio provided by the Bang & Olufsen BeoSound AMG system.
So, from September 2010, the Bang & Olufsen BeoSound AMG high-end
sound system, which was developed jointly with Mercedes-AMG engineers, will be available in the complete engine line-up, starting with the V6 gas and diesel engines, the hybrid and up to the powerful V8 and V12 versions of the S-Class. The BeoSound AMG system is standard equipment in the S65 AMG.
Designed to match the quality of the S-Class interior, the Bang & Olufsen sound system features four illuminated acoustic lenses as well as exquisitely-designed aluminium speaker grills. The white LED light of the four tweeter units in the mirror triangle as well as in the b-pillar is adjusted to match the color from the instrument panel. It automatically switches to day or night mode based on the ambient light, which is detected by a sensor in the rear view mirror. On system start-up the light smoothly fades in to the required level.
Besides 15 high performance speakers, the BeoSound AMG high-end sound system includes a total amplifier power of 1.200 Watts. Particularly the system consists of a 3-way speaker system in the front doors to enable optimal sound radiation for driver and front seat passengers. The midwoofers in the rear doors as well as the tweeters in the b-pillar together with two midrange speakers as surround speaker and two powerful subwoofers in the parcel shelf ensure a superior sound chamber for the passengers in the back.
The system also provides two powerful amplifiers, which have been engineered based on the experiences from previous automotive projects: one of them proprietary ICEpower technology; a fusion of high output power and hi-fi sound quality with ultra-compact design and low power consumption. The 750-watt ICEpower amplifier is closely interlinked with the 450-watt DSP (digital sound processor) amplifier, which converts the stereo sound and the Dolby Digital 5.1 signal into 7.1 surround sound.
The closed speaker cabinets ensure that the sound from music and phone calls stays in the car, giving an optimal ‘privacy-effect’ which is especially convenient for making confidential phone calls. The cabinets provide a controlled acoustic environment and thus allow consistent sound quality. Furthermore the closed cabinets reduce undesired structural vibrations from the car when playing music at high sound pressure levels.
Bang & Olufsen Automotive is working on more sound systems for coming Mercedes-Benz cars, and it seems that these advanced sound systems are expected to be launched during 2012.
