Ever since Microsoft officially unveiled their
Kinect motion controller (formerly known as Project Natal), everyone's been eagerly waiting for Microsoft to provide some official pricing and availability details (not to mention this next-gen device actually making its way into stores). And sure enough, that's exactly what they did today, while in the same time providing customers with a very interesting surprise in the form of a brand-new Xbox 360 model.
So, the company from Redmond has just revealed the fact that, this holiday, users will be able to get the
all-new Xbox 360 4GB console, the Kinect sensor and "Kinect Adventures" packaged together for $299.99 (U.S. ERP). As you might imagine, this 4GB console (which will start shipping a lot sooner that the Kinect, namely in August) is the replacement for the Xbox 360 Arcade, which proved to be quite a success, making Microsoft's console a lot more popular with gamers on a fairly tight budget.
The
devices will also be available separately. The 4GB Xbox 360 sells on its own for around 200 US dollars, while the Kinect sensor with the included “Kinect Adventures” pack will sell for roughly 150 US dollars. With "Kinect Adventures," players will make their way through 20 adventures, navigating roaring rapids and ducking and dodging through mountaintop obstacle courses and other exotic locations. “No controller, wand or balance board required”, Microsoft adds, taking a direct jab at Nintendo's Wii and Sony's motion controller.
"Kinect for Xbox 360 offers tremendous entertainment value for the whole family," said Dennis Durkin, Xbox 360 chief operating officer. "With full body, voice and the ability to play games with your friends right out of the box, Kinect is the most unique, complete and affordable way for everyone to enjoy controller-free fun and entertainment."
